Free-stall dairy barn
What characterizes a free-stall dairy barn?
The Allgäu region has traditionally a lot of experience in dairy farming. We Allgäuers know that a key prerequisite for successful dairy farming lies in barn construction.
A free-stall dairy barn must be comfortable for cows, performance-enhancing, and economically feasible. In planning, it comes down to small details that greatly facilitate daily work and are also relevant to animal welfare.
We build the entire barn for you (including barn equipment) that meets your individual, climatic, regional, and economic requirements precisely. Our focus in building a free-stall dairy barn is on cow comfort. Because a dairy barn is only as good as the performance the cows deliver within it.
This performance also largely depends on how comfortable the cows feel in the barn. If you are planning to expand your building, we place great emphasis on a harmonious integration with your existing structure.
We are happy to offer a photovoltaic system for self-sufficiency, which we deliver and install.

Robotic stable
Unlike conventional milking parlors, in AMS barns, the milking and waiting area is directly associated with the feeding and lying area. Therefore, an automatic milking system (AMS) requires a clearly structured layout with good division between work and animal areas. A central aisle to the milking robots facilitates daily routine tasks with the milking systems. In the cow traffic in AMS barns, a distinction is made between free, partially guided, or fully guided cow traffic. Depending on the system, different arrangements of stall rows as 6-row, 4-row, 3-row or 2-row are available. Whether a central feeding table or two outside feeding tables are set up depends on the farmer's preferences.
It is important to think about the existing herd and the goals pursued with the AMS barn even before starting barn planning. From consulting on the execution variants and systems of your barn via the input plan to the construction implementation of the robotic stable, we stand by you as a partner with our expertise. Especially in barns with automatic milking systems, manure removal, and/or feeding technology, an energy storage solution is very interesting. We are happy to advise you.
Free-stall dairy barn with milking parlor
Whether you plan a milking carousel or group milking parlors (herringbone, side-by-side, swing-over) in your free-stall dairy barn is always a matter of type.
The different types of milking parlors, however, have very different space requirements. Therefore, the choice of milking system centrally influences the design of the entire free-stall dairy barn. For precise barn planning, it is important to know in which direction your thoughts are going here. That way, we can construct the optimal free-stall dairy barn with a milking parlor for you. In doing so, we incorporate our extensive practical experience in planning, manufacturing, and building free-stall dairy barns.
Barn with milking center
In a modern free-stall dairy barn, the focus should always be on animal welfare. But the economic aspect also plays an increasingly important role with rising animal numbers. Barns with a milking center or their own milking building are often chosen in this area. Benefit here from our experience in large-scale dairy facilities. The planning of your milking building or milking center depends on whether you decide on carousel types (inside or outside milkers) or a group milking parlor (herringbone, side-by-side, or swing-over).
The arrangement of the milking technology and the waiting areas is based on:
- the available construction area,
- the expected business development,
- the herd size
- the economic requirements
Wide transitions and walkways in the barn reduce stress for the cows. Light and air contribute to the health of the animals.
For wider building widths, we recommend with a view to the well-being of humans and animals a side ventilation combined with a light-air ridge system.
Barn with outdoor access
Cattle "bathe," like most humans, also enjoy the sun. Just as much, they like to be rained on. This stimulates the metabolism (vitamin D supply) and circulation. There is a strong case for allowing the animals access to the outside, especially as Germany is clearly moving in this direction. Large canopies on the eaves sides allow animal-friendly outdoor single stalls, which are eagerly accepted with favorable shading. Additionally, a playpen or waiting area with plan attachment or slatted floors is possible.
Multiple-building designs
In a multiple-building cattle barn, there are various ways to arrange the buildings. For example, the milking house is often added as a separate building to the barns. Multiple buildings can be realized with simple constructions and low ridge heights. Short spans and an open design ensure good airflow.
Covered single stalls
Barns with outdoor access can easily be expanded with covered single stalls or an additional feeding table. We offer you three covering options for single rows and one for double rows for your single stalls. A covered feeding area, a so-called outdoor feeding table, is an inexpensive and simple form of construction for additional feeding places.
Conversions and extensions
All conversion and extension measures always aim for a specific solution.
We plan renovation and expansion of existing barns very carefully and thoughtfully. We know from experience what matters. The planning should incorporate the size ratios and structural condition of the existing building. Often, individual property conditions also play an important role. We offer you a variety of possibilities and have practical ideas on how to realize conversions and extensions to an old structure.
Good to know
On request, we also provide a complete solution for your barn construction. This means that we handle the planning, manufacturing, and construction of the barn and also equip your barn according to your wishes.
