Parking lot canopy
What are the benefits of covered parking spaces with photovoltaics?
Parking lot canopies are a visual enhancement and a commitment to renewable energies. Basically, covered parking spaces and garages aim to equip existing parking areas with innovative solar canopies and intelligent charging infrastructure. The solar power generated can, for example, be used to charge electric vehicles. This is particularly interesting in the commercial sector for existing parking areas and carports, but also when there is additional demand for simple shelter or storage areas.
- CO2-neutral energy production
- Increased satisfaction among employees and customers through weather and environmental protection
- Powerful solar systems even where existing roofs do not allow it
- Available as single rows, double rows, or full coverage
- No winter service required with complete coverage
From planning to completion - See for yourself
PV modules for canopies: An attractive solution with dual benefits for parking lots
Our HÖRMANN single row canopies and double row canopies with semi-transparent PV modules as roofing or with trapezoidal sheet roofing are an attractive solution with dual benefits for parking lots and loading bays. By protecting vehicles from sunlight, snow, and hail, you increase, for example, the satisfaction of your employees and your customers. The energy generation through the PV system - without the need for additional space - is ideal for optimizing self-consumption. All our systems can integrate wallbox holders as a factory option, making it easy and visually appealing to integrate the charging infrastructure.
Choose HÖRMANN PV parking lot canopies today and make your parking lot a pioneer in sustainability and innovation.

T-variant
Our HÖRMANN T-beam is an appealing solution for the canopy of parking spaces with double rows. The single-sided orientation allows optimal positioning of the photovoltaic system. The central support makes the construction optimized for easy entry. Even when getting out, no supports obstruct the door opening.
Y-variant
For the canopy of parking spaces with double rows, our HÖRMANN Y-beam is also an excellent solution. The striking shape is ideal for channeling rainwater centrally into a drainage strip or through a box gutter into downpipes.
The central support position of the solar carports offers maximum flexibility in the arrangement of parking spaces and guarantees high comfort when parking and exiting.
L-variant
Our HÖRMANN L-beam is the perfect solution for the canopy of parking areas with single rows. The orientation to one side allows an ideal positioning of the photovoltaic system. The construction, with the support position, is ideal for easy parking and exiting.
Basic-variant
Our HÖRMANN Basic system is a very economical solution for the canopy of parking areas with single or double rows. The support positions are optimized for convenient entry and exit. With this system, extensive earthworks are often not required (depending on the soil conditions). Thus, existing parking spaces can be covered with photovoltaics in a minimally invasive and surface-friendly manner.
Why photovoltaic canopies?
1. Energy generation meets innovative constructions:
The robust HÖRMANN constructions with high-performance PV modules efficiently convert sunlight into electrical energy.
2. Environmentally friendly and cost-saving:
Our PV parking lot canopies are the solution for companies looking to improve their environmental balance and reduce operating costs.
3. Durability and ease of maintenance:
PV parking lot canopies from HÖRMANN stand for quality.
4. Economic benefit:
Utilizing solar energy grants access to government incentive programs for renewable energies.

Besides covering parking rows or carports with photovoltaic roofs, we also realize area canopies over parking and traffic areas for you. The larger area allows for higher power installation, resulting in a higher total yield. Another advantage: Traffic paths are free of snow and ice in winter, largely eliminating winter maintenance. This type of canopy is often used for large parking areas with rectangular geometry, storage areas for unlicensed new vehicles, and parking garages. The area canopy can optionally be equipped with semi-transparent glass-glass modules or a trapezoidal sheet roof.
The benefits of parking lot canopies with photovoltaic systems
In winter, you don't need a snow removal service with a covered parking lot. In summer, a parking lot canopy provides a well-tempered vehicle interior, reducing the car’s air conditioning use, which lowers energy consumption and actively contributes to climate protection. Furthermore, the vehicles under our canopies are also protected from weather influences like hail.
Fully covered – Parking garage canopies
The canopy of existing parking garages or the canopy of the top parking decks with a semi-transparent in-roof system without sub-roof is a current trend. The demand for canopy solutions for parking garages and decks is increasing. Aspects of sustainability and economy play a role, as do practical considerations such as protection from wind and weather. Provide more comfort for your employees and customers. At the same time, you can utilize attractive roof areas for solar energy generation, whose financing largely pays for itself.
Visually appealing canopy - Parking lot canopies with semi-transparent in-roof systems
We offer you an innovative solution with daylight penetration – semi-transparent in-roof systems, i.e., in-roof systems without sub-roof. The roof covering is done with semi-transparent modules. The modules allow some light to penetrate – making the area under the canopy significantly brighter and more appealing than a covering with trapezoidal sheet metal. They are ideal for covering company parking lots or, for example, decks on parking garages. The structure is identical to a standard carport.
The greatest advantage of the HÖRMANN in-roof system with semi-transparent PV modules is the light transmission of the modules. Therefore, the parking lot under the canopy remains bright, and lights are only needed from dusk onward. From an image perspective, the visibility of the PV modules from below can also play a significant role.
In all projects, the fire protection framework conditions must be individually checked and implemented, whether installed on an existing parking garage or a parking lot. For this purpose, a fire protection concept is created. Generally, the rules of an open large garage apply here, which vary slightly from state to state.
According to different state parking regulations, there are varying requirements. In Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, for example, a maximum width of 70 m per building is permitted. After that, a distance of 5 m from the next building must be maintained. The length is unlimited.
A building permit is usually required for a parking lot canopy, as it is considered a structural facility, like a storage hall or other buildings.
This depends on the individual federal states, counties, and municipalities. A general statement cannot be made here. Sometimes a drainage system is required, e.g., a trench system, and sometimes surface drainage over the parking area is prescribed. This point can only be finally answered with a building inquiry to the relevant authority in advance.
At HÖRMANN, canopies can generally be constructed in steel, steel combined with wood, or entirely from wood. There are restrictions, however, due to the building regulations of individual federal states, e.g., regarding fire protection. We are happy to advise you on the possibilities for your parking lot.
There are many different possibilities. The most well-known option is a foundation with classic concrete foundations. However, a significant part of an already existing parking area may have to be torn up for this purpose. At HÖRMANN, we have also extensively dealt with minimally invasive foundation possibilities. These are heavily dependent on the soil conditions. We are happy to advise you on this.
Different parking areas require different canopies. At HÖRMANN, we plan each canopy individually for our customers. Of course, we also offer simple standard systems. A major advantage of area canopies is the significantly higher PV performance due to the larger roof area. Another advantage, especially in snow-rich regions, is the elimination of winter maintenance in covered areas, including the driving lanes.
