Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

How much m² roof space do I need for 1 kWp (module performance)?

About 5 m² of roof space is required for 1 kWp.

What is the procedure until the commissioning of my PV system?

The prerequisite for the construction of the PV system is the positive feed-in certificate from the grid operator. Preliminary work such as a cost estimate or an offer will be checked against the conditions of the feed-in certificate. After that, the final offer is made, as well as the installation and commissioning of the PV system.

Which roof surfaces are suitable for photovoltaics?

Various options are possible for the roof covering. Both trapezoidal sheet metal, sandwich and tile, as well as most flat roofs (foil roofs) are suitable for PV.

Are only south-facing roofs suitable for photovoltaics?

The current module generation responds very well to diffuse light (light from all directions). Therefore, the orientation of the roof is not decisive alone. The modules are installed flush with the roof on pitched roofs and no longer mounted. On foil roofs, mounting with East/West orientation is usually preferred.

What do the different terms kW, kWp, kWh, DC, AC mean in relation to a PV system?
  • Kilowatt (kW): Electrical connection power of the inverter (maximum feed-in power)
  • Kilowatt peak (kWp): Electrical peak nominal power of the installed PV modules. This is achieved under standard test conditions.
  • Kilowatt hour (kWh): This is a measure of electrical energy over a specific time. e.g., A PV system generates 10 kW for one hour → the PV system generates 10 kWh (power (10 kW) * time (1 h) = work (10 kWh))
  • Direct current (DC): With fixed positive and negative poles (as known from batteries)
  • Alternating current (AC): With continuously changing polarity (as known from the power grid)
Which manufacturers does HÖRMANN work with to implement the systems?

Our business partners include Jinko Solar, Huawei, Alptech PV, SMA, Neoom, Fronius, JA Solar, Pramac, and BYD.

Which substructures are used to mount the PV modules on the roofs?
  • The constructions depend on the roof covering

    - Tile roof: Replacement roofing sheets made of metal are used for attachment; these hold the support rails for the modules.
    - Trapezoidal metal/Sandwich roof: The support rails are screwed onto the high beads.
    - Flat roof (foil roof): East/West mounting has proven successful here, which may be ballasted depending on the region.

  • We collaborate with renowned manufacturers SL Rack, K2, and Schweitzer.
  • The substructures are statically calculated by us for each construction project.
