Lunging arena

What makes a good lunging arena?

A lunging arena is understood as a smaller indoor riding arena, which can be executed in a round or angular form. The lunging arenas are mainly used for lunging and free running of the horses or for groundwork. Lunging arenas are often supplemented with a walker. This way, the full potential of this round arena for horses is utilized.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)

What cost items should I consider when building a riding facility?

In addition to the obvious material and assembly costs for the building, there are other services and trades that need to be considered. Of course, these vary depending on the building project and its complexity.

Possible cost items can include:
-        Concept creation/planning
-        Preparation of building application documents
-        Surveying/soil investigation
-        Execution planning
-        Structural analysis
-        Fire protection report
-        Earthworks
-        Grounding system
-        Interior construction: electrical installation, lighting, heating/sanitation
-        Stable equipment
-        Indoor riding arena floor
-        Irrigation system
-        Outdoor facilities
-        Etc.

We are happy to advise you on the cost points that need to be considered when building a riding facility.

How big should a horse-friendly box be?

The size of the box depends on the size of the horse. As a minimum size, the guidelines for assessing horse husbandry from an animal welfare perspective provide the formula (2xWh)². For a withers height of 1.70 m, this results in a box size of at least 11.56 m². However, in planning, areas for hay racks should also be considered, as these may need to be deducted depending on the model. We are happy to advise you on a case-by-case basis.

Is a horse stable or an indoor riding arena subject to approval?

Yes, a horse stable or an indoor riding arena always requires approval! First, it must be clarified whether it will be built inside or outside. Depending on this, further requirements arise that determine whether a building is eligible for approval. For a planned construction project, it is therefore advisable to contact the local authorities early. We are happy to assist you in the approval processes for your building.

How do I achieve a pleasant riding atmosphere in the indoor riding arena?

In the indoor riding arena, two factors play a decisive role: firstly, the penetration of daylight, which ensures a bright, friendly atmosphere. Secondly, the air quality. Optimal supply and exhaust air allow the air to circulate and be exchanged. This is especially necessary due to the regular watering of the riding floor. An insulated roof completes the picture and buffers external temperature extremes, allowing for riding in the indoor riding arena throughout the year.

Photovoltaics on riding facilities - what needs to be considered?

Equipping the riding facility with a photovoltaic system leads to energy-efficient management of the entire equestrian operation or can financially support the operation with full feed-in.
However, it is important to clarify feasibility at the given location beforehand. This mainly involves the connection to the power grid and the presence of a nearby transformer. If feasibility is fundamentally possible, the PV load must be included in the structural calculation of the building - with us, this is already included in the offer.

What advantages does wood as a building material offer?

Building with wood is climate-friendly! Why?
Because 1 m³ of wood binds approximately 1 t of CO2 during its growth. At HÖRMANN, we predominantly rely on domestic woods to keep transport routes as short as possible and thus contribute to climate protection. Furthermore, wood as a building material creates a bright, friendly atmosphere, ensuring that both horses and humans feel completely comfortable. Additionally, wood can be architecturally optimally combined with other building materials.
Feel free to talk to us about it!
